Dr. James Lofgren, a general and family dentist, graduated from the University of Iowa receiving both a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and and a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. While at the College of Dentistry he received the Academy of General Dentistry Award as the outstanding senior dental student in his class in general dentistry. He also was chosen, during his junior year, to represent the University of Iowa at the national meeting of the American Dental Association.

During his career, Dr. Lofgren has served, at various times, as an associate professor in the Dept. of Family Dentistry at the College of Dentistry, University of Iowa, an instructor in the Dental Hygiene Dept. of the Des Moines area Community College, as president of the Iowa Academy of General Dentistry, as an instructor in the national Society for Occlusal Studies, a teaching organization for practicing dentists, was the founder of the Mid-Iowa Society for Occlusal Studies, and has been awarded a Fellowship (FAGD) in the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Lofgren is currently a member of several professional organizations, including the Springfield Dental Society, the Missouri Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.

While none of his children have followed him into the practice of dentistry, Dr. Lofgren’s father and two uncles were dentists and were an inspiration to him. He is married to Abby and they have four  grown sons and several grandchildren. He enjoys  horseback riding, fishing, canoeing, gardening, reading, church activities, and especially practicing dentistry!
